Team REIQ Gold Coast
Team REIQ Gold Coast
Story
As the peak body for real estate professionals in Queensland, the REIQ is proud to leading a team of professionals from the local real estate community who are taking on the ‘Live Like Her Challenge 2025’ – spending a night sleeping in our cars to raise vital awareness and funds for The Forgotten Women.
This year, the REIQ is also participating in the inaugural Gold Coast Live Like Her Challenge, and our team is led by local REIQ member, Robyn Wigmore. Robyn participated in the Brisbane Challenge in 2024, and shared why she’s back to support The Forgotten Women in 2025:
“I’m proud to raise awareness and funds for The Forgotten women – a cause that’s both personal and professional for me. After a late-in-life divorce, I came close to losing my own home and understand just h ow vulnerable that can feel. In my work as a real estate agent, I’m constantly contacted by women over 55 who are finding themselves priced out of long-term rentals or struggling to find somewhere safe and affordable to live. I took part in the Brisbane challenge last year, and the experience was far more confronting – and powerful – than I expected. It strengthened my resolve to stand up and do something. This issue is growing fast, and together, we can help change lives. This is one way I can make a difference – and I invite our whole industry to join me and the Welcome Change team in the challenge.”
We invite you to get behind Team REIQ Gold Coast, by clicking “Donate Now” to make a secure online donation which will go towards helping more homeless women over 55 into a home. Every dollar makes a difference – and all donations over $2 are tax deductible, with a receipt emailed to you automatically.
We know there’s plenty of goodwill in the real estate profession and this is an issue very close to our hearts. We all agree that shelter, whether we own that shelter or rent that shelter, is essential and its simply unacceptable that our mothers, sisters, grandmothers and friends are being forgotten by our housing system.
Thank you for your support!
The Forgotten Women
Mangrove Housing is the founder of The Forgotten Women Project, an initiative committed to providing homes to homeless women over 55 years of age - the fastest growing homeless population in Australia today. There are more than 40,000 Queensland women over the age of 55 who are doing it tough - suffering financial hardship driven by rising costs, lack of employment, limited superannuation and a lack of affordable housing options. Across the Greater Brisbane area there are over 600 homeless women over 55 .Alarmingly this figure is predicted to more than double by 2036. The Forgotten Women's mission is to provide fit-for-purpose housing for homeless women over 55 with individually tailored support. Everyone deserves to live with dignity and age securely in place.
